grades runs many high schoolers ragged. For many anything but the best is simply unexceptable. In a society that constantly tells it’s youth they must have the highest pay check and newest car to be happy, why wouldn’t this be the case? A fifth year of high school would give students more oppurtunity to take classes they would enjoy, take stress off of teenagers, and give the youth of our nation a chance to develop good priorities.??Schools are always adding new and interesting courses, but for many, like the college bound student, there just isn’t the time. Though an arts and crafts class might sound like fun, something like AP Music Theory would probably look better on a transcript. Since there is no time to take both the student will probably take the harder class even if it is just to keep up appearances. Fifteen years old seems to early to start making “career” choices over things that wold be fun. But it happens and it causes stress.

Teenagers in the country have an ever growing load of stress being placed upon them. Starting before high school teens are faced with the questions: Where are you going to college? How are you going to get there? What are you going to be? All these questions are extremely daunting and often stress students out. Also, with the price of college so high many students take on a job during high school which only adds to the stress. With an extra year of high school not only would students have time to think through big decisions, but they would also be better able to balance work with school.??Time is so fleeting in this day and age. There is never enough time. No time for family, no time for relaxing, no time for sleep. Even if some time is stolen to recooperate, aren’t the youth told that if they rest at home or sleep too much they are lazy and worthless?! While too much “vegging” could be a problem, teens need to know what is important and necessary for their mental and physical health. At the pace of many highs…

ESSAY

WANGARI MAATHAI AS A SERVANT LEADER.
“There are two dead end roads in Leadership. The first dead end is to try to be someone else, and the other is simply to be who we are in the vain hope that the world will recognize our innate brilliance and leadership talent….”as explained by Larry C. Spears in his book Insights of Leadership. A servant leader is an individual of character who understands himself and puts people first. He is a skilled communicator, compassionate collaborator, has foresight for the future and a thinker who exercises moral authority. A servant leader does not approach leadership with a top-down hierarchical style but emphasizes on trust and empathy in collaboration with others. It begins with the natural feeling that one wants to serve, to serve first. Then conscious choice brings one to aspire to lead. That person is sharply different from one who is leader first, perhaps because of the need to assuage an unusual power drive or to acquire material possessions and later serve others. This doesn’t mean that a servant leader is one who is liked by all, but his/her impact on the world is felt by many, for eternity. The writings of Robert K. Greenleaf identified characteristics of servant leaders as, “listening, empathy, healing, awareness, persuasion, conceptualization, foresight, stewardship, commitment to the growth of others, and building community”.
In Kenya we have had such a leader, a servant leader. A heroin, the late Wangari Maathai. She was born in Kenya and went to study in the USA. She came back with masters in biological sciences. She became the first woman in East Africa to acquire a doctorate .She joined politics during which her servant first type of leadership began to dominate. She sought to end devastation of Kenya forest and lands caused by development to redeem the negative impact that was already beginning to be evident on our country’s environment. So in 1977 she launched the Green Belt Movement to reforest her beloved…

Essay

Kite Runner
Acceptance and love are two things that everyone wants to feel. In the Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini, Amir is so desperate to be loved by his father that he is willing to do anything for it – including hurting others and even himself because he cannot forgive himself for what he has done. In trying to be loved by his father Hassan has thrown Amir under the bus, he has gotten rid of Hassan, and lives with guilt all his life.
1- Amir sacrifices Hassan for Amir’s needs
Amir lies to everyone
2- he cannot tolerate seeing Hassan and being reminded of his guilt. He further throws Hassan under the bus in order to help tolerate his guilt. But it only makes it worse.
3- Living with guilt causes him to not make friends to not be honest with his wife, to keep secret
Hassan is always yearning to be loved by his father [why you think he doesn’t’ believe he is]. Amir is so desperate that he allows his friend Hassan to be violated in order so he could get the flag. Amir feels guilty but does not do anything about it. Hassan is not like his father in many ways but one way was that Baba speaks up for what he believed is right, while Hassan is quiet. Hassan has a different personality to his father. Hassan’s father, Baba, speaks his mind and is not afraid of what others think. Hassan on the other hand is much more reserved; he does not want to do what he believes because his father does not approve it.
Hassan is not able to live with the guilt he has. Hassan is constantly reminded of what he didn’t do to help Amir. Every time Hassan sees Amir is reminded of what happened. While Hassan tries to get rid of Amir it does not work. Amir is all around Hassan everywhere he goes. Hassan is dealing with this guild his entire life. He tries everything in his power to get rid of his guilt but it is useless. Hassan works for his entire life to get rid of his guilt. When Hassan goes to get Sohrab he owes this to Amir. Hassan is finally going to be able to get rid of…

Essay

Technology is a broad concept that deals with a species’ usage and knowledge of tools and crafts, and how it affects a species’ ability to control and adapt to its environment. In human society, it is a consequence of science and engineering, although several technological advances predate the two concepts. Technology is a term with origins in the Greek “technologia”, “??????????” — “techne”, “?????” (“craft”) and “logia”, “?????” (“saying”).[1] However, a strict definition is elusive; “technology” can refer to material objects of use to humanity, such as machines, hardware or utensils, but can also encompass broader themes, including systems, methods of organization, and techniques. The term can either be applied generally or to specific areas: examples include “construction technology”, “medical technology”, or “state-of-the-art technology”. The human race’s use of technology began with the conversion of natural resources into simple tools. The prehistorical discovery of the ability to control fire increased the available sources of food and the invention of the wheel helped hum…

Appropriate technology The notion of appropriate technology, however, was developed in the 20th century (e.g., see the work of Jacques Ellul) to describe situations where it was not desirable to use very new technologies or those that required access to some centralized infrastructure or parts or skills imported from elsewhere. The eco-village movement emerged in part due to this concern.
